I Can’t Make You Love Me — Bon Iver (cover)

So if you have been following me…you know that I’ve been obsessing over this song [thanks to my bestie Shoey Sun for sharing it with me].  It’s my release at the moment and speaks so much to me.  So I decided to just mess around with it while I had the studio to myself tonight and to see where the freedom would take me.  I’m always so apprehensive about putting up footage of myself dancing, let alone putting up a piece that is incomplete/not yet perfected.  But then I reminded myself of why I was creating this in the first place…it wasn’t about perfection, what looks good or bad, etc. I simply love feeling out music through motion and emotion.  I have a thing for dance therapy you could say haha.

Besides this piece/song being super personal to where I’m at in my life…I also wanted to challenge myself with creating movement inspired by two of my biggest dance heroes (Jillian Meyers and Galen Hooks).  I think they are master story tellers through the simplicity found in movement. They can make the most subtle moments capture your heart and I absolutely love watching them perform. They’re also masters at making genius choices in choreography and dancing.  Ahhhh I just look up to them so much…so I wanted to be in that mindset of SIMPLICITY but still staying true to me. 

Anywho…with all that being said…here’s the latest piece I’m working on! I hope you enjoy as this is only the rough draft of what I did in a few late hours tonight — its a mix of choreo and freestylin it :]

It is communicating your deepest emotions without the necessity of verbalising.

It is engaging, captivating.

It is. Beautiful.
